SPORTSPEOPLE from the area have competed in the British Transplant Games - with one picking up a bronze medal.
Lucy Chandler, 29, from King's Stanley, achieved bronze in the 5k road race event.
Stonehouse's Adrian Heeley also took part in his Gloucestershire team’s first games, which were held in Nottingham from August 1 to 4.
Silver medal winners from the team were Liam Ward, 31, and Andrew Danson, 42.
Liam and Andrew won their medals in the 5k running events for their age groups, with Andrew also winning silver in the 1500m.
They were joined by team members Ryan Penfold, Tracie Cox, Andy Niblett and Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust renal unit staff Sarah Ryder and Karen Williams.
The team is looking to compete again in Oxford at the 2025 games.
Adrian has managed to raise over £2,000 for the Gloucestershire Kidney Patients’ Association, which supported the event.
“GKPA is proud to be sponsoring the Gloucester team competing in the Transplant Games for the first time,” he said.
“Kidney disease affects all aspects of life for kidney patients and their families.
“Transplants can completely transform their lives.
“Organ donation can only happen due to the generosity of donors and their families, either living or deceased.
“As a charity, we wanted to support the team at the games to show what can be achieved after a transplant and to pay tribute to all the donors and their families.”
