GLOUCESTERSHIRE Warriors will move off the foot of the Co-operative Rugby League Conference Midlands Premier division this weekend thanks to the two points given them from Derby City’s withdrawal and the cancellation of this weekend’s fixture with the Warriors.

The Warriors have just two league games to go but these will be two of the hardest games of the season.

Next Saturday, they travel to leaders Coventry Bears and follow that with a visit to derby rivals Bristol Sonics who currently sit in second place.

This weekend’s Midlands Premier division fixtures could well be repeated in the first round of the play-offs next month. The Bristol Sonics travel to Birmingham to face the Bulldogs looking for the win that would edge them closer to securing second place and a home play-off tie. The Bulldogs are tough to beat at home and have already beaten the Sonics at Perry Common already this season. A repeat of that win would see them go level with the Sonics in second place with just two rounds to go.

Leaders Coventry Bears look to bounce back from their surprise defeat in Bristol last week as they entertain Leicester Storm at Tile Hill. The Storm have beaten both the Sonics and the Bulldogs in recent weeks and have won their last three matches making them the form side of the division.

The Storm believe they are capable of overturning the Bears and a win would put pressure on the sides above them as they chase a home play-off tie.

Meanwhile, the Warriors have filled the gap in their schedule and will play new side the Wiltshire Wyverns at Sandyleaze, kick off 2.30pm.

The Wyverns were only formed earlier this year and this weekend’s game will be only their second as they have already beaten Bristol Sonics’ reserve side. A Warriors’ spokesman said: "We are really pleased to have arranged this game as it gives both ourselves and the Wyverns a chance to have a run out and give players more experience without the pressure of playing for league points.

"With two tough league games coming up, hopefully, the exercise will be useful."
