THE SNJ have teamed up with Forest Green to help boss David Hockaday sign more players.

The Rovers boss has so far assembled a small squad of 13 players, alongside a crop of Hartpury students, but the former Watford and Southampton coach is desperate to add two or three new players to beef up his team.

However, with no more coffers in his war chest, Hockaday now needs the help of fans and investors to help him bolster his army.

With his hands tied, the Forest Green supremo missed the chance to keep hold of Mark Preece who signed a deal with Blue Square Premier rivals Mansfield Town on Friday. However, determined Hockaday has now opened a playing account in a last-ditch move to raise capital.

“With the help of the SNJ I would like to appeal to the fans or any business investors to come forward and make a pledge to help pay players wages,” said Hockaday. “If 200 fans could dig deep and pay £25 a month, then we would have a great chance of finishing higher up the table.

“I am pleased with the players I have brought in and make no mistake we have a very good side.”

Hockaday had hoped to add the experience of Julian Alsop to his squad, but the former Cheltenham striker has re-joined Zamaretto League Division One South and West Club Bishop’s Cleeve.

“ I would love to have Julian in my squad, but at the moment he is unable to commit to Blue Square Premier football.”
