SHORTWOOD boss John Evans felt his side showed Premiership quality as United racked up their seventh straight Hellenic League victory at Hook Norton. Evans said: "Two of the goals we scored tonight wouldn't have been out of place in the Premiership."

Earlier, United substitute Victor Webb celebrated his 24th birthday with a brace.

Wood took the lead after 53 minutes with an outstanding goal. Ben Pugh's cross was just too high for the onrushing forwards but the ball was worked out to Webb on the right wing. Webb cut in and sent a tremendous curling strike across the keeper and just under the bar. Less than a minute later Wood scored again. Meadows saved at Kacey Johnstone's feet and when the resultant corner came in Meadows flapped for Webb to shoot beyond a ruck of players. Hook Norton battled their way back into the game and reduced the arrears when a low cross was deflected to Harris who shot home inside the left-hand post.

Wood sealed the points after 73 minutes with another terrific effort.

There seemed little danger when Matt Bennett suddenly unleashed a thunderbolt with his right foot that simply flew in from 30 yards.

Shortwood: Thomas, Cornwall, Bennett, Steadman, Bennyworth, Evans (Webb 34), Casey, Baldwin, Johnstone (Greenhough 62), Hoskins, Pugh (Allard 66).
