JIM HARVEY could be set to swoop for Salisbury City legend Scott Bartlett ahead of Forest Green’s crucial Blue Square Premier home clash against Mansfield Town on Saturday (3pm).

Harvey is a known admirer of the versatile Bartlett, 29, who is available on a free after the club slashed wages by 30 per cent to ease their financial burden.

Captain Aaron Cook, and former Forest Green left-back Matt Robinson are also looking to leave the Blue Square Premier side - all three are part-time players.

Bartlett, a former club captain, is one of the home-grown players who manager Nick Holmes built his team around when he arrived at the Ray Mac six seasons ago.

Salisbury-born Bartlett has made well over 350 appearances for City and, since signing for them in February 2000. He previously played for Cirencester Academy.

The SNJ also understands Harvey has earmarked former Northwich striker Michael Byrne.

The ex- Bolton and Stockport man is currently unattached, but played for Wales’ semi-professional squad against Finland at Llanelli's Stebonheath Park on Tuesday.

Harvey made no secret of his frustration after watching his side soundly beaten 3-1 by Altrincham at The New Lawn on Saturday. The Nailsworth side are still searching for their first Blue Square Premier win since August 30.

A livid Harvey said: “It’s obvious now now that maybe there are half a dozen boys who just aren’t good enough for us.

“I’ve known this for a while, and there hasn’t been a lot we could do about it, but now I have to do something. I’ll make them available and see if we can bring some more in.”

Rovers should welcome back Lee Fowler (ankle) and keeper Ryan Robinson (elbow) into the squad for Saturday. However, captain John Hardiker and Alex Lawless, knee and lower back respectively are out. Curtis McDonald (groin) and Mark Preece (groin) continue to receive treatment from sports therapist Ian Rodgerson.

Do you think Harvey should sign Bartlett and Byrne?
