FOREST GREEN boss Jim Harvey has promised a player cull after he watched his relegation threatened side slump again.
The Gloucestershire side are still searching for their first Blue Square Premier win since August 30 after Chris Senior’s first half brace helped Altrincham leave Nailsworth with the points and keep Harvey’s side rooted inside the bottom four.
Harvey said: “It is quite obvious now and I’ve known this for a while and now we will have to do something and make move and move half a dozen out and make them available and see if we can bring some more in.”
Earlier, Rovers started the match in rude health as Jerry Gill’s long ball picked out the muscular Michael Symons who turned to flash in a swerving strike from 25 yards that Alty keeper Andy Ralph did well to gather. Josh Low, on loan from Cheltenham Town caught the eye briefly on the right-side of midfield as he arrowed over a cross that Simon Clist tried to get on the end of. Nonetheless, Graham Heathcote’s side took the sting out of Rovers when the outstanding Dale Johnson’s pass from inside the box was touched home by Colin Little after just four minutes. Terry Burton denied a second for the Manchester-based side as Johnson was thwarted as he outwitted Paul Stonehouse following Mark Mc Gregor’s long ball. Senior made it two on 28 minutes as he nipped in and beat the onrushing Burton. It got worse for Rovers when on loan Wrexham defender Darran Kempson allowed Senior to nip in and touch a left-footed strike home for his second and Altrincham’s third on 32 minutes. Kempson atoned for his error seven minutes later as his long ball was flicked on by Symons for strike partner Andy Mangan to drill through Ralph to offer Rovers some hope.
Rovers held sway in the second half. GIll showed great tenacity to rifle in two early crosses for Mangan to head into Ralph and then only a last-gasp defensive clearance from Robbie Lawton denied Symons at the far post .
Former Forest Green favourite Alex Meechan replaced Little and Les Afful came on for his 100th appearance for Rovers.
Jonathan Smith’s pass from midfield released Mangan who evaded Ralph but failed to get his shot on target from an acute angle. Darren Jones tried his luck from 40 yards as time ran out for Rovers. Substitute Lee Elam almost made it four after Jones’ mistake allowed Senior to scamper away, but Burton’s dash from his line blocked his advance.
