WEPL

FROCESTER wriggled out of Premier One relegation trouble with a tense victory away to fellow strugglers Bishopston on a drama-packed final day of the WEPL season.

The village club went into their last match of the campaign knowing that two results had to go their way if they were to survive after spending the majority of the season stuck to the bottom of the table.

Part one went to plan after dismissing Bishopston for 86 and then clinching a three-wicket triumph which condemned the Bristol side to the drop.

Wimma Perera bagged 4-20 from seven and followed up with a vital unbeaten 21 while there was also a fine return of 4-16 from ten by Richie Cave.

Frocester also had to depend on Lansdown, who started the day safe in eighth place, losing at home to Bristol who went on to close out a 26-run victory, Nic Halstead Cleak top scoring with an unbeaten 149 and Gloucestershire’s James Bracey compiling a third century in three outings before he was held for 113.

It was just as tight at the top of the table with Potterne emerging as the table-toppers, finishing two points clear of Bridgwater and four ahead of Bedminster who condemned Bath to a fourth place finish with a seven-wicket win at The Clanage.

Thornbury, the Premier Two Glos/Wilts champions, suffered a first league defeat of the summer, sliding to a 29-run home reverse against Painswick, for whom captain Jack Hobbis claimed 4-46 to ensure fifth place.

Dumbleton finished fourth following a six wicket home triumph against Chippenham, Tommy Boorman marking his return to the side with 104.

Hatherley & Reddings grabbed sixth with a 196-run away caning of relegated Avebury, Ben McShane producing one of the spells of the day to bag 7-17 from seven, while Cheltenham lost a last over thriller at home to Corsham by one wicket.

Premier Two Bristol/Somerset champions Downend lost by four wickets at home to Weston-super-Mare, but Golden Hill ensured a second successive runners-up finish thanks to a five wicket home triumph against relegated Wellington.

Gloucestershire division champions Tewkesbury overcame Corse & Staunton by 44 runs, Tom Stevens finishing with a tremendous spell of 6-11 from six overs, while Gloucester came third courtesy of a three wicket home defeat of runners up Chipping Sodbury, John Barlow finishing with 4-9 from five.

Charlton Kings tied up third place with a three wicket victory at Bourton Vale, Frocester 2nds edged relegated Rockhampton by 11 runs and Stroud were two-wicket home victors over Langford.

In Bristol & North Somerset, champions OB Westbury trumped relegated Stapleton by two wickets while Knowle finished second despite a five wicket setback at Twyford House.

Bristol West Indian Phoenix lost by 92 runs at home to Bedminster 2nds, Bradley Stoke slipped up by 93 runs away to Bath 2nds and Bristol 2nds ended on a  winning note, defeating Brislington by six wickets with Graham Herring top scoring on 104.

MATT Clutterbuck and Pars Ghadiali shared a 300-run partnership as Whitminster demolished Parkend to ensure a second place finish in Division Five of the Gloucestershire County League.

Clutterbuck finished unbeaten on a remarkable 196 - the highest individual score this season throughout the entire competition - while Gladiali was dismissed for 104 as their side piled up 361-2 from their 40 after winning the toss.

In reply, Parkend were rushed out for only 57, Jake Clack grabbing 6-13, to complete a 304-run triumph.

Jack Thomas was another batter in form, cracking 136 from 105 (18 fours, three sixes) for Sheepscombe in a 227-run thumping of Cirencester 2nds.

Leaders Cheltenham 3rds grabbed the title with a six wicket victory away to Down Hatherley, opener Andy Hawkins top scoring on 47.

Hawkesbury Upton, meanwhile,  are Division One champions following a ten-wicket home humbling of Westbury-on-Severn who were dismissed for 111, Sam Beeley finishing with 4-18.

Alex Gooding’s unbeaten 115 at the top of the order paved the way for Aston Ingham to finish second with a 95-run home triumph over Great Rissington who dropped into the bottom two, passed by Cirencester who were four wicket home victors against Thornbury 2nds.

Division Two champions Tetbury saw off second-placed Cheltenham 2nds by 76 runs, Jacob Flowers finishing with 5-22, while Craig Stow powered Redmarley to a five wicket home triumph against Apperley with an unbeaten 88.

Dumbleton 2nds clinched the Division Three title with a four wicket win away to Gloucester AIW, and Ullenwood Bharat wrapped up second place thanks to a 91-run home success against Dymock, Jitesh Thammisetti in form with an unbeaten 76.

Damien Bouwer, meanwhile, followed up a return of 5-25 with an unbeaten 95 off just 36 (17 fours, three sixes) in Chipping Sodbury’s six wicket home defeat of Cricklade, and Aditya Rathore’s figures of 6-15 from eight ensured a 136-run victory for Hatherley & Reddings 2nds over Fairford.

Bourton Vale 2nds leapfrogged Woodmancote for the Division Four silverware with a seven wicket defeat of their rivals.

And an emphatic 168-run victory at Upton St Leonards ensured the Division Six title for King’s Stanley, Paul Frape hitting 75 and Jason Huxstep striking with a return of 5-21 from eight.

And the runners up slot was filled by Langford 2nds following their five wicket home success over Oldlands.

Rob Birch powered his way to 171 off just 119 (23 fours, two sixes) for Apperley 2nds in a runaway 192-run home win against Tormarton.

The Division Seven championship went to Cam 2nds following a 41-run home win over Oakridge, and opener Steve Jones’ unbeaten 55 paved the way for Haresfield Gladiators’ 31-run home triumph against runners-up Tetbury 2nds.

Nathan Fagg top scored on 48 and then grabbed 6-30 from eight for Painswick 2nds in a 39-run home success over Eastcombe.
