FOREST GREEN ROVERS have captured the signing of their arch-rivals' former captain on a free transfer.

Defender Sean Long will be leaving Cheltenham Town when his contract expires in July.

Long was the club's captain last season and joins Rovers as they look to bounce back into League Two.

He told the FGR website: “I’ve had six unbelievable years at Cheltenham – some really good people as well as making some great memories. I want to thank them and wish them all the best.

“It was a privilege to captain the club and I’d like to thank the fans for their support during my time.

“We achieved some great things but I’m at the stage where it’s time for a new challenge.

“I had some really good discussions with the Gaffer and everything he said was something I want to get involved in.

“He made things clear on what he wants to do and the kind of player he wants to bring in.

“It’s a really exciting the challenge and a great opportunity to bounce back.”
