JOSH Breed finished with terrific figures of 4-21 from ten as Cheltenham trumped previously unbeaten Painswick by 49 runs in WEPL Premier Two Glos/Wilts.

Needing 282 for what would have been a third straight win, Painswick faltered to 232 all out as the leg spinning all-rounder made inroads, backed up by Jack Cherrington and Hassam Dahar who both bagged two wickets.

Earlier, opener Mike Kelly (71), Nick Evans (45), Dexter Purser (43) and Breed (42) all made an impact with the bat for Cheltenham who now face a trip to Dumbleton, 22-run victors away to promoted Avebury.

Gloucestershire’s Tommy Boorman (114) and Tom Kelly (68) powered the village side to 269-6 after losing the toss before Avebury came up short despite 113 from Alex Ayers.

Thornbury moved into top spot with a two-wicket home triumph over Royal Wootton Bassett, opener Chris Gibson top scoring on 54.

Hatherley & Reddings and Corsham tied a low-scoring thriller. Visitors Corsham were bowled out for 121, Tom Hage capturing 4-24 from ten, before the home side slipped from 97-6 to finish all square.

In Premier One, Frocester went down by four wickets away to Potterne, promoted Bishopston were skittled for 65 and a nine-wicket reverse at Burbage & Easton Royal, and Bedminster were thumped by 124 runs at home to Bridgwater.

Bristol, meanwhile, came up 15 runs short at home to Bath despite a fine return of 5-36 from Rishi Panchal and Will Rudge’s 61 off 51 which helped his side recover from 47-7 and almost inspired a famous win.

Downend stay top of Premier Two Bristol/Somerset following a three-wicket rain-affected triumph away to Taunton Deane, and now prepare on Saturday to welcome second-placed Golden Hill who cruised to a six-wicket home success against promoted Congresbury, Lesego Senokwane unbeaten on 95.

Gloucester continued their perfect start to the campaign with a third straight win in the Gloucestershire division, downing Frocester 2nds by 30 runs, Thom Wilshaw and Craig Collinson claiming three wickets apiece.

Also three from three are Tewkesbury who thumped Bourton Vale by 165 runs, Jack Dickson being dismissed for 97 before Matt Stevens (4-16) and Will Lucas (3-18) made inroads.

Promoted Langford got off the mark with a three-wicket success at Corse & Staunton, Tom Stevens taking 3-24 from ten, while captain Benny Ellis’ unbeaten 112 guided Charlton Kings to a last over two-wicket victory at home to Chipping Sodbury.

Rueben Shehean’s 103 from 68 featured nine fours and eight sixes, and paved the way for Stroud to edge Rockhampton by 101 runs.

Knowle moved top of Bristol & North Somerset with a two-wicket win at Bradley Stoke, Joe Brimble top scoring on 83, while Twyford House also made it three from three with a seven-wicket home defeat of Bedminster 2nds.

George Harris bagged 4-23 from ten for OB Westbury who edged Bristol West Indian Phoenix by 27 runs, Brislington overcame Stapleton by six wickets and Bristol 2nds lost by 15 runs away to their Bath counterparts.

DOM Jones hammered an unbeaten 172 as Churchdown went on to thump Ashleworth Woodpeckers by 235 runs to seal their first win of the summer in Division Four of the AMS Gloucestershire County League.

The opener faced 125 balls, cracking 19 fours and eight sixes, to power his side to an imposing 324-3 after losing the toss.

And the visitors then folded to just 89 in reply, Paul Fredericks claiming 4-21 from eight.

It was much tighter at Woodmancote who eeked out a tense three-wicket home success against Corse & Staunton 2nds who were dismissed for 74 after winning the toss.

Jack Isher (4-6 from 5.4) was the chief destroyer for Woiodmancote who, in reply, were on the back foot at 14-3 and 47-6 before Huw Dimond dug in with a valuable unbeaten 21 to get the job done.

Hawkesbury Upton continued their flying start with a 137-run triumph over Cheltenham Civil Service to make it three from three and go clear at the top of Division One.

Captain George Bailey’s 90 and 70 from Fred Bennett dominated the home side’s challenge of 263-5 before Mike Colborn struck with 3-18 from four.

Captain James Newman led from the front with 102 for Poulton who broke their duck in Division Two with an 18-run victory away to Apperley while skipper Craig Stow’s 90 was the highlight of Redmarley’s 93-run success at Newent.

Ted Batchelor hammered an unbeaten 144 off 115 (12 fours, seven sixes) for Dumbleton 2nds who rushed past Cinderford St John by 140 runs in Division Three where Akshay Sreenivasan continued his good form with figures of 4-6 from 5.4 in Frampton-on-Severn’s 191-run triumph over Cricklade.

In Division Five, Joe Hobbins finished with 5-25 from eight for Sheepscombe who overcame Minchinhampton by six wickets.

And in Division Six, Abhishekh Chidambaran’s burst of 4-8 from only 14 balls put Gloucester 2nds on course for a ten-wicket home defeat of Tormarton.

Unbeaten Tetbury 2nds marched on in Division Seven with a 78-run success at Oakridge, Jamie Ponting (5-10) and Glenn Freeman (4-150 taking charge.

And Matt Denney’s burst of 5-10 was the highlight of Oaksey’s first win of the campaign, an eight-wicket home success against Haresfield Gladiators who were skittled for just 64.
