JOE Wilton scored a last-gasp equaliser as Shortwood United pinched a point off Clanfield 85 on Saturday.
Wood had taken the lead through Jake Rhodes but goals from Cameron Pirie and Nathan Kimber inside seven minutes after the hour mark turned the game on its head.
It had looked as if Wood were going to lose ground on the Hellenic League Division One play-off places but substitute Joe Wilton profitted from a defensive mistake to head home a 90th minute equaliser
Shortwood now occupy fifth place in the table, but just four points ahead of Clanfield, who have played four games less than Wood.
The first half opened brightly enough with Clanfield’s Jamie Wyatt firing over and Wood's Chris Earle being denied by an excellent piece of defending by Samuel Elkins.
Jozef Fullerton headed a good chance wide for the hosts and Jake Rhodes had the ball whipped off his foot as he was about to pull the trigger at the other end.
Wyatt caused problems for Wood all afternoon but clear cut chances for either side were few as the game developed into a midfield battle and both defences on top.
Joe Tryner seemed to be at the heart of Wood’s defence and made a superb clearance off his own line to deny Clanfield.
But in added time before the break, Wood took the lead as Alexander Ethan-Bell got away from his defender and his low cross was perfect for Rhodes to score from 6 yards.
The game was turned on it's head after an injury to Wood's goal-scorer Rhodes.
After 63 minutes there was a bit of pin ball in the Wood box and Cameron Pirie poked the ball home before Kimber raced through and drove the ball across Jacob Muir into the far corner to turn the game around for the home team.
All seemed to be up for Shortwood and they struggled to find a way through despite working their socks off until they were handed a lifeline in the 90th minute.
A Clanfield defender shanked a clearance under his own bar and although the keeper clawed it out it went straight to replacement Wilton who headed home to make it 2-2.
