THE derogatory football chant aimed at Forest Green fans could be heard loud and clear.
Carlisle fans were in full voice as they chanted 'Football in a library' and they were right. Empty seats greeted the players and initially there was no atmosphere. Only 1,504 turned up, including 228 away fans. We are second in the league and this was the second round of a great competition.
For many of us the FA Cup is a competition of dreams. The trouble was that Saturday has given me nightmares. All four goals in the game were gifts and it was not a game for goalkeepers.
Mistakes were made all over the pitch. At times the game was thrilling but this was a game when discipline was needed. We had been given a goal and were on top.
There should have been no room for the sloppiness that followed. What had happened to the resolution of the game against Crewe? All is not lost, far from it.
Fine away form and penalty practice could see us through in the replay. Experience should be the major factor in team selection. Ebou Adams will be a fine player, but the bench may be the place for him. He would make a fine impact sub. We can still dream but whatever happens a big turnout for Scunthorpe please.
