FOREST Green boss Mark Cooper feels Christian Doidge's spell at Bolton Wanderers may have damaged his game a little.

Doidge scored his first goals since his return from Championship club on Tuesday night against Grimsby Town.

Cooper praised the striker's strength of character to bounce back and score what he described 'typical' Doidge goals but felt they way Bolton played may have had an effect on his game.

"I think it might have damaged him a little bit," Cooper said. "Going to a team that didn't get many chances, he was just chasing and running because it was a team struggling so it's basically about damage limitation.

"Christian needs to be in a team where he's getting provided with lots of chances and balls across the six yard box.

"But to have a deal taken away from you that he thought was guaranteed takes some getting over no matter who you are but the strength of character was there for everyone to see.

"He needed to get Saturday out the way but he bounced back on Tuesday with two typical Christian Doidge goals."

Cooper also discussed this Saturday's crucial trip to Stevenage in his pre-match press conference.

He also confirmed Reece Brown will be OK for the game after a touch of flu but said Dayle Grubb is still a couple of weeks away.
