FOREST GREEN play scintillating football but commit unforced errors at both ends of the pitch. These cost them goals.

‘Whatever happens, we must keep going’. This is the way Truro City will approach the FA Trophy tie at the New Lawn on Saturday. I reckon they have got it right.

The news from Cornwall is that Les Afful left the field with a leg strain on November 19 and has not played since. We may see the popular Les on the bench, and he will certainly get a good reception either on or off the field.

If you see him, remind him of his goal at the New Lawn against Exeter City. It was a stunner.

There has been much player news this week. There must be special delight at Charlie Clough extending his contract until 2019.

Charlie is the mainstay of our defence and his game is improving in so many ways. He is my Player of the Season so far. Clough has adapted to the Cooper philosophy better than I thought possible.

Could he grow into the position of captain? He must be a front-runner candidate. Clough is growing with the club.

Ady Pennock signed him and deserves credit for this, but he missed star striker Omar Bogle when the latter was at Solihull Moors and available for around £30,000. Bogle went to Grimsby and we all know what happened next. Perhaps new signing Shamir Mullings from Chelmsford will exceed Bogle’s success.

Manager Mark Cooper’s transfer policy is now clear. Find young and hungry players. Mullings joins Manny Monthe in the Rovers squad. Ethan Pinnock is another such signing, and if the two recent additions match the success of Ethan this season, our autumn impetus will return.

Matt Tubbs will not, however. He’s had many good days in his career but his best ones are surely behind him. The evidence of a player past his best was obvious when he played here for Eastleigh. It is best for everyone that he’s made the move to Sutton. FA Cup glory may be waiting.

Glory has certainly come the way of Kieffer Moore in his loan spell at Torquay. As captain of his home town club, Moore has scored goals regularly. A loan spell was just what he needed and it will benefit Forest Green if he continues his consistent good form on return.

Consistency is the key word for Kieffer. His ability is not in question, but does he demonstrate it in every game? Not yet at the New Lawn, I’m afraid.

Perhaps strikers including Rhys Murphy, now himself on loan, would have benefitted from more stability in regard to squad selection.

We all know Cooper has chopped and changed a lot, mostly for understandable reasons, but has this policy been the correct ones?

We now move to the second-half of the season and it is time for forecasts. But first of all, thanks. Never before have I been as entertained at the New Lawn as I have this autumn.

There have been some splendid games to watch. But at the same time there have been some frustrating results. Some games have been like a “spot the mistake” competition. If these errors can be eradicated, there is no limit to what may be achieved.

We have three seasonal challenges against teams from the seaside. Seven points would be a good return – as would a trophy triumph over there.

All we want is a New Year’s resolution of the utmost simplicity. Be resolute.
