Squash superstar Amelia Henley has capped off a brilliant two years at Wycliffe by winning the U19 European Championships in Switzerland without dropping a single game.
Amelia arrived at Wycliffe in September 2014 and was already British U17 champion – she retained that title in the first year and has gone on to compete with the best juniors in the world.
She has twice finished fifth in the prestigious British Junior Open, which showcases the best junior squash players from around the globe.
Amelia has also led the school’s girls’ squash team to the National Schools title two years running and has attracted some of the best female squash players to Wycliffe to train with her.
Amelia’s talents don’t begin and end on the squash court – she has also worked extremely hard academically to be awarded a place at Harvard University in America.
Her teacher Jonny Harford said: “Amelia is someone who gives 100% to everything that she does; every time she comes to training she is looking to improve and get as much out of it as possible. Her enthusiasm is infectious, as is her motivation to get that little more out of whatever she can.”
In the European final she demonstrated how much she has improved in the last year, beating the Number 1 ranked European player from Belgium 3.0, reversing her loss from last year’s event. Amelia then went on to finish runner-up in the U23 British National Championships.
Next, she is looking forward to the World Junior Championships, which is being held in Poland over the summer, where she will be attempting to shine once more.
