Shortwood 3
Bashley 0
SHORTWOOD pushed their unbeaten run to eight matches with a comprehensive Southern league South & West Division One victory over Bashley, writes Paul Benneyworth.
Shortwood dominated from start-to-finish and Bashley were restricted to only one shot in the whole of the match.
Shortwood broke the deadlock after 31 minutes. Matt Bennett’s deep cross was missed by the keeper for Lewis Sommers to sweep home.
Five minutes later Shortwood were 2-0 up. Ross Langworthy’s shot was deflected home by captain Ash Thomas.
The half ended with more Shortwood pressure but Bashley survived for a welcomed rest.
Any thoughts that Bashley would stage a fightback in the second half was quickly dispelled when Shortwood added a stunning third goal. Sommers and Langworthy combined for Adam Price to volley home from 25 yards.
Shortwood made three substitutions in quick succession, including new signing Dominic Njoya. In the 68th minute, Phil Veal who had come on as a substitute, was the victim of a high tackle which ended his participation and resulted in a red card for the Bashley man.
In the last minute, Tom King made a fine save diving low to his right to deny Bashley’s one clear opportunity.
SHORTWOOD: King, Rawlings, Humphreys (Njoya 60’), Thomas A, Lee (Veal 54’), Haddock, Langworthy (Egan 59’), Hancock, Sommers, Price, Bennett.
Sub not used: M Thomas.
Star Man: Nick Hancock.
SHORTWOOD have added Hartpury College duo Michael Opoku and Dominic Njoya to their squad. They were sent to the Nailsworth club by former Wood midfielder Marc Richards. Opoku and Nijoya are set to travel to Wantage Town tonight.
