Forest Green boss Ady Pennock made just one change from the team that fell to a 1-0 defeat at strugglers Nuneaton.
Marcus Kelly was restored to the midfield with Elliott Frear making way. Pennock was still without veteran striker Lee Hughes, who was serving the second of his three-match ban.
Winless in five games, Rovers carved open the first chance on eight minutes. Rob Sinclair’s corner saw the towering Luke Oliver stoop to head off target.
A sublime move was almost topped with a 15th minute opener. Clovis Kamdjo, playing as a makeshift striker, fed Jon Parkin showed nimble footwork to release captain David Pipe, his low cross flashed across the box with Kelly a football boot away from making it 1-0.
Three minutes later Rovers nosed ahead. Sam Wedgbury fired over an exquisite right-footed cross for James Norwood to power in a header at the far post.
Norwood had the bit between his teeth and saw his shot blocked after a deep surge from midfield.
FC Halifax, who started the day in third, flickered briefly with Richard Peniket fizzing wide.
Rovers made it 2-0 on 29 minutes. Norwood’s toe-poke forward saw Kamdjo cut the ball back for Parkin to sweep home with aplomb.
Deep into stoppage time Parkin saw his crisp strike blocked following fine foraging from Kamdjo.
