DREW Cheshire has called on Gloucester to thrive on the buzz of winning the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby 7s Series as the start of the full season draws near.

The Cherry & Whites laid to rest the demons of last year's Series, where they let a 28-5 lead in the final with London Irish slip to a 31-28 defeat, at the Rec in Bath on Friday night.

Cheshire came off the bench in the final against Leicester, who have never reached such a position before, and helped steer them to a 24-17 win in front of a vocal, sell out crowd. He revelled in the electric atmosphere created by the Gloucester faithful in Bath and believes the club can use the silverware as a kick-start for the fast-approaching XVs season.

"I'm so excited for the new season now - there's a really good buzz going around the club," said Cheshire.

"It is such a good feeling to win a bit of silverware. "The morale should be sky high now. It is such a great feeling and hopefully that will boost the club now for the pre-season games and then we'll hopefully do well in the league.

"It is unbelievable. It was an amazing feeling out there in front of all the people cheering us on - getting the Gloucester supporters coming and getting behind us really helped us to push on and win the last game."

Gloucester qualified for the Series final second in their group, after beating Bath and Exeter at Kingsholm a week earlier, and their strengthened side hit the ground running on Friday.

After seeing off Newcastle Falcons 21-0, the Cherry & Whites took on Saracens in a winner-takes-all clash the game before the final and ran out narrow 17-14 winners.

And, after a blistering first half put them in control of the final, Cheshire thwarted a Tigers resurgence by breaking two tackles and offloading to Nevaro Codlin to score the winning try. And Cheshire is hoping his contribution to Gloucester's pre-season silverware at the Rec will thrust him into the reckoning for more first-team action this season.

"I just saw a gap in front of me and went for it and thought hopefully I will get the space to get the try for our team," added Cheshire.

"I'll just keep training hard and hopefully try to get in one of the pre-season games later on this month.

"I'm not really sure what's going on at the minute because I'm still at university and I have got one year left there.

"It is pretty tough trying to juggle that and rugby, but we'll work out whatever's easiest and just go with that."
