PAINSWICK travelled to second place Widden Old Boys on Saturday and gave a good account of themselves, with the scoreline flattering the home side.
Painswick's forwards had the edge over Widden's with their pick and drive providing plenty of ground, but with the ball like a bar of soap they often lost it and Widden's slick three-quarters made them pay for their mistakes.
Entering the last quarter Painswick were only trailing 10-0 and were on top, but then they lost scrum-half Martin Hayward to the sin-bin, and Widden duly added another ten points while he was off - to seal the match.
In the dying minutes Widden scored an unconverted try to give them a rather flattering scoreline in a game in which Painswick certainly had their moments.
This weekend Painswick take on old rivals Cirencester in Gloucestershire Premier League action, kick-off 2.30pm at Broadham.
