Shortwood Utd 2 - Witney Utd 1.
WITNEY'S unbeaten league run came to an abrupt end at Meadowbank in dramatic fashion thanks to a last-gasp Chris Greenough strike.
Witney opened the scoring on 10 minutes when Witney midfielder Jamie Cook cut inside left-back Matt Bennett and then fired his shot just inside the far post, beating the outstretched hand of keeper Jay Richings.
However, drama ensued on 35 minutes. Witney forward Lee Keyes received a straight red for foul and abusive language towards the linesman.
Shortwood finally netted parity with 20 minutes left. Right-back James Coates hit a long diagonal cross into the box that was spilled by the Witney keeper Paul Tassell. Ryan Preddy tapped the ball to Chris Davis who buried the ball in the net from 10 yards, his 20th of the season.
Shortwood continued to presssurise the Witney defence with Greenhough, Shane Gage and James Singh all going close.
Shortwood keeper Jay Richings, who was a virtual spectator was called into action on 90 minutes with a great save at the near post, keeping Shortwood in the game.
The winner came deep into injury time when Greenough was able to fire home from a last-gasp corner.
*Shortwood welcome Quarry Nomads in the Floodlight Cup on Wednesday (7.30pm).
United are at home on Saturday when they face Binfield (3pm) in the Hellenic League Cup.
