ON the climate change march in Stroud held as part of a global day of action ahead of the UN summit in New York on the environment.
Posted by olgaraffa: What a great turnout and heartfelt direct action on climate change this event was. I was personally there raising awareness about the proposed science of climate geo-engineering which Parliament is in the process of putting governance and legislation into place for. We understand that research into climate geo-engineering (solar radiation management) is a large part of the climate change problem to date. Aerosols from aircraft contribute to global dimming and more of the same we believe is not a way forward as a plan B to mitigate so called global warming. Well done all. More action is needed.
On the editorial comment discussing our attitudes towards child neglect.
Posted by Nimue Brown said: You may be confusing ‘nice’ with an approach that wishes to avoid all conflict, difficulty and discomfort. It is not ‘kind’ to ignore the abuse of children, it is not tolerance that looks the other way. Truly liberal tolerance accepts diversity and difference but that does not mean condoning cruelty. It is not compassionate to condone cruelty. It’s also very easy to ‘stand up and shout’ but that doesn’t change much. Keep shouting at someone and you can leave them afraid and demoralised - shouting and bullying go together really well. Getting stuck in to make a difference is often hard. How many people looked the other way over these children and others like them? How many of us feel no responsibility for what happens around us - from the well-being of our neighbours to the country as a whole? Every time we shrug and ignore, we are part of the problem.
Every time we wait for someone else to do something about it, we are part of the problem.
