MADAM — How can BSkyB possibly lay claim to a common English word as their own?
The Oxford English Dictionary gives the first date for the word ‘sky’ as 1550, long before they had ever been thought of.
If they had wanted a trade name that no-one else could use, they should have had a bit more forethought.
Are we to rename the colour ‘sky blue’?
Can we no longer call jumping out of an aircraft ‘sky diving’.
And must the bird ‘skylark’ be called something else.
Surely, greed knows no bounds when a mega company pursues a small concern over the use of English.
