ON PLANS by Stroud District Council for weekly food waste collections.
Posted by kjag23: I’ve always thought of Stroud of a rather green place but really its recycling and waste management are awful.
Why has it taken so long to introduce an opt in food recycling programme?
Most places are doing fortnightly black bin collections, comprehensive and extensive collections of other recyclables, weekly food waste collections, garden waste etc... Stroud really is far behind on its waste management.
Posted by B wildered: Shame they aren’t bringing it in next year really, as we recycle as much as we possibly can now but food waste that can’t be composted has to be binned. Disappointed with the garden waste bin charge, especially as it will be going in the waste lorry with all the other rubbish. Although if you have a garden it should really be being composted. I’m most disappointed in the charge for bulky waste collection as this will just lead to more fly tipping. This will hit those without access to transport the most, who tend to be those with the least income. A token charge of £5 would be better, if they have to charge at all.
On Nympsfield’s ‘toxin free community’ status following a local referendum which found that more than three quarters of residents said they would be opposed to fracking or waste incineration in the village.
Posted by kjag23: Also I expect Nympsfield to now be without cars, oil-derived plastics, smokers, log fires, people who have ever flown on aeroplanes, pesticides, fungicides, bleach, mobile phones, ammonia washed paper, AGAs, gas cookers, gas central heating, heavy metals, caffeine, alcohol, the list goes on. Saying you are against fracking does not mean you are toxin free village. It’s logic more warped than me declaring my home a food-free zone because I am against intensive meat farming.
