MADAM – In reply to Mavis Mandel’s letter in the SNJ — this is my response.
I have undergone the equality and diversity training as requested by the Stroud District Council in response to my inappropriate phrase used about myself.
I asked the trainer: “What can I say or can’t say?”
His reply was: “There is no answer. What is acceptable today may not be acceptable tomorrow. Glossaries change”.
Some of us may use phrases that are considered inappropriate on certain occasions or situations but in my case, as a Stroud district councillor, I should have been more circumspect and not used this phrase within the earshot of a member of the public, nor on Stroud District Council property.
I have apologised and feel very repentant.
Cllr Elizabeth Peters
District councillor (Con, Chalford)
