MADAM - I am dismayed at the news that funding for the part-time literacy class at SGS College has been withdrawn.
This is because the Government no longer funds adult courses which have no exam or qualification.
Even though I am in my 80s, I attended this course alongside other older and younger people, some with dyslexia.
Many in my class would not have had the confidence to go on and do GCSEs without the literacy class.
Just as I benefited from the course, I have seen the others in my class grow in confidence and ability with reading, writing and filling in forms.
They will go on and get qualifications but what will people in the future do?
You can't get far these days without basic literacy.
How will those who need literacy classes get the help they need now?
