THE 47th Cotswold Chess Congress was staged at King's School, Gloucester over the Bank Holiday weekend.
With an entry of over 100 contestants the event was a great success and fitted in very well at its new venue.
There were large contingents of local and junior players taking part.
The Open Section was won by Pavel Asenov from Witney with Ian Robson and Joey Stewart (both Gloucester), Chris Beaumont (Bristol) and Graham Bolt (Exeter) sharing second place.
The Major Section was won by Andrew Munn from Bristol and the Minor Section by Steven Crockett from Birmingham.
The Congress organisers would like to thank the head master, staff and students at King's School for their cooperation and assistance in staging the event.
The refreshment stall was provided by the school staff and raised funds for the school's Borneo appeal. Photographs are courtesy of Brendan O'Gorman.
Stroud Chess Club is also moving to a new venue and will now be meeting on Tuesday evenings at the Black Book Cafe.
New members of any playing strength are welcome.
