ON SATURDAY, September 27 in the Community Room at Rodborough Tabernacle United Reformed Church Glenis Massey and Liz Shankland had organised a Coffee and Gateau Morning for the Red Cross Appeal for Gaza, between 9.30 and 12.00p.m. There were a delicious selection of gateaux served by Dorothy and the teas and coffees by Gill, Terri and Marion with a bring and buy stall and a magnificent £222.55 was raised for this worthy cause and Glenis and Liz would like to thank everyone who helped in raising such a sum.
On Sunday, September 28 there was a celebration for Harvest “Bread for All” led by the Minister Rev. Eric Massey.
Before the service started at 10.45 there was coffee and tea in the Community Room.
The choir sang “Praise for the Harvest.”
Eric said there are 842,000,000 people in the World who are starving.
He then performed a sketch with Diana.
He was in a café asking for a drink of water and she went through every type of water there is.
He became exasperated and then she suggested a glass from their best water supply which Miriam brought in.
It was very cloudy and undrinkable and so Diana suggested a glass of coca cola like the rich people drink.
This is how it is in Bangladesh.
The windows had been beautifully decorated and Eric gave everyone a chance to look at the displays.
Glenis had prepared many different types of bread in the entrance, Jenny “Bread for All”, Hilary showing the difference between rich and poor, Diana the Middle East and the terrible turmoil there at the moment, Barbara the African continent and Gill the sub continent of India.
A beautiful pedestal had been arranged by Marilyn.
Eric and Liz performed another sketch.
She wanted to give thanks to God for the meal they were about to eat but Eric contradicted her by saying the food came from Sainsbury’s and she tried to explain to him but he would have none of it and their food went cold.
The offertory was taken and the donations for Stroud Food Bank were brought forward and the choir sang “Give thanks.”
Brian and Barbara read from the New Testament.
Her reading was the parable of “The Good Samaritan.”
Glenis and Eric talked of how whole nations are beaten up, Christian Aid and Oxfam help the starving and there are 93,000,000 wheelie bins of waste food in Britain every year.
That everyone must help the hungry, thirsty and homeless and love one another and hope for Peace.
Eric had written “Bread for All” and was joined by Liz and Gill as he accompanied them on his guitar.
Everyone retired to the Community Room to partake in a Bring and Share Lunch organised by Rose and Margaret and helpers.
A time to reflect that the Tab folk were very fortunate to be able to partake of a delicious repast in Peace and Fellowship.
