GLOUCESTERSHIRE County Council’s ‘Make Music Gloucestershire’ is building a picture of music education in the county to ensure more young people get access to music.
Make Music Gloucestershire, a network of music organisations, musicians and schools, is one of 122 music education hubs created across England as part of the government’s national plan for music education.
The hub is asking all school music teachers, musicians and music organisations who work with young people in and out of schools, to share information about what they do via two online surveys.
The surveys can be completed at www.glos.musicdatashare.org.uk, by Friday 10th October.
The surveys will collect information about genres and types of music activity in and out of schools from choirs to orchestras to rock bands, the numbers and ages of pupils involved, standards reached and the exam boards used.
The results will be shared with schools, musicians, music educators, the hub and the county council, to help them work together to improve and develop music education, identify where support and improvements are needed, and make the case for future funding.
Cllr Paul McLain, Cabinet member for children and young people and commissioning said, “If you’re involved in music locally and can spare a few minutes to go online, please fill in this questionnaire and help shape music education in our county.”
