ACTIVE Gloucestershire have issued a last-minute call for people to get involved in the Gloucestershire Sports Awards before nominations close next week.
The local charity which aims to increase the amount of people taking part in sport and physical activity is supporting the awards which will recognise the 2014 sporting heroes of Gloucestershire.
With just seven days left until nominations close, Active Gloucestershire’s Chief Executive, John Stevens, said “it is vital to recognise the hard work and commitment of those people who make grassroots sport happen as well as celebrating the achievements of our local sporting heroes. Let’s make sure that everyone in the county worthy of recognition is actually nominated”
There are 14 categories in this year’s Sports Awards, including Sports and Young Sports Personality, Senior and Junior Team, Disability Sports Performer and Coach of the Year, which is sponsored by Active Gloucestershire.
Last year’s winners included Paralympic world record holder - Scott Jones from Cheltenham, School Games Swimmer - Levana Hanson from Tewkesbury, world champion angler - Sam Hughes from the Forest of Dean, Gloucester rugby team - Coney Hill, former Stroud and South Gloucestershire College graduate - Grace McCatty, and Stroud Ladies Netball Club Coach – Wendy Chandler.
