STROUD Rambling Club recently celebrated 60 years since its foundation with a weekend of festivities.
On Saturday, July 20, Trevor Wood led a 13 mile walk from Stroud via Nympsfield to Nailsworth, following the route of the club's inaugural walk in 1953.
In the evening, members enjoyed an excellent anniversary dinner at the Old Crown, Paganhill.
To celebrate the diamond jubilee, the club has donated a kissing gate to replace a difficult stile on a footpath in Whiteshill.
On the Sunday, Geoff Hudson led a four-and-a-half mile circular walk from Pitchcombe to Whiteshill.
When the walkers arrived at the new gate they found it tied up with a green ribbon which was ceremonially untied by Rita Apperly, a past chairman of the club, to officially open the new gate.
The celebrations ended with a wonderful tea in Pitchcombe village hall, prepared by the ladies of Edge WI.
Several members spoke of 'the old days' and of the lasting friendships they had made in the club.
The celebration cake, beautifully iced with the club's Cotswold Ram logo, was cut by Marion Teale who has been a member since 1963.
This event rounded off a most enjoyable weekend, with the club looking forward to the next decade and beyond.
