OUR local branch was fortunate to receive four tickets to attend a Strawberry Fayre at Somerset Legion House at the end of June.
Somerset House is a magnificent hotel which is wholly owned by the Royal British Legion and is situated on the sea front in Weston-super-Mare with beautiful views over the Bristol Channel to Wales and Exmoor.
We were served with an amazing tea of strawberry scones and meringues and we were able to chat with other Legion members from far and wide.
The whole event was financed by numerous raffles, which many branches had been running since Christmas.
The hotel provides Poppy breaks for up to 75 people at one time, for one or two week stays.
The hotel caters exclusively for serving and ex-Service people, their partners, dependants and carers which gives the place a unique atmosphere.
This purpose built centre and all its facilities are accessible to guests with poor mobility or those who use a wheelchair.
If you would like more information about breaks at Somerset Legion House, please call 01934 629589.
The Minchinhampton Branch is organising a coach trip to Weston-super-Mare and Somerset House on Tuesday, September 3.
If you would like to join us for the day please contact our secretary Sandra Hayward and she will be able to give you the details of the visit - call 01453 884082.
