THE energy and excitement of one of Stroud’s biggest choirs will be showcased to the nation as part of a new documentary airing on ITV1 this month.

Filmed partly in Stroud, The Choir That Rocks tells the story of the world’s largest and most popular singing group with some 8,000 members in 90 choirs across the UK.

Camera crews captured rehearsals and performances by the 50-strong Stroud choir as part of the documentary, which will be broadcast in three episodes starting tomorrow at 9pm, Thursday.

First launched in September last year, the Stroud Rock Choir boasts a wealth of talented members who most recently took part in a gig at Wembley Stadium featuring fellow choirs across Britain.

The ensemble also recorded a track on the Rock Choir album, which is due for re-release to coincide with the documentary, and will be performing their infectious repertoire of pop, Motown and gospel at the Sub Rooms, Stroud on Friday, July 22.

Rehearsals are held every Thursday night at Lansdown Hall and to date the group have mastered a catalogue of classic hits, including an ABBA medley and You Can’t Hurry Love by The Supremes.
