A FATHER and son were left traumatised last week after their beloved springer spaniel was attacked by a Staffordshire bull terrier right in front of them.
Steve Ireland was walking his dog Billy with 11-year-old son Callum around 8.30pm on Tuesday, February 8 on Bread Street, Ruscombe when the attack happened.
"It was dark and the dog came out of nowhere and just attacked Billy," said Steve.
"I tried to separate them but the dog had locked his jaw around Billy’s neck and would not let go.
"Its owner lifted it up but it only led to both dogs being lifted off the ground as the dog would not release Billy.
"It’s a real shame that we have lost that nice father and son walk as Callum does not want to go out with the dog any more."
The incident has been reported to police.
