TWENTY sets of traders pulled out all the stops for this year's Stroud in Bloom shop window competition.

Malcolm Tarling, chairman of Stroud in Bloom, has now released details of the winners.

Of the 20 entrants there was one bronze award, five silver, nine silver gilt, and five golds.

All entrants have received certificates.

The name of the overall winner, to receive a meal for two at Mills Cafe, will be announced at the Stroud in Bloom annual general meeting in October.

The innovative and exciting shop fronts contributed to the presentation of the town centre when Britain in Bloom judges visited Stroud in July.

They were particularly looking out for evidence of community involvement in keeping the town neat and tidy.

Last year Stroud scooped a silver-gilt, the second highest award, in the Heart of England category.

Results of this year's judging will be announced in September.

Meanwhile, more than £1,500 has been donated to the SNJ's Save our Stroud in Bloom appeal, which was launched after committee members revealed that without extra help and fundraising next year's event would have to be cancelled.

Mr Tarling says the group needs around £3,000 to make this possible.

To make a donation, no matter how small, send a cheque made payable to Stroud in Bloom to 92 Boverton Drive, Brockworth, GL3 4BS or to Stroud Town Council offices in London Road, Stroud.
