A MINOR earthquake measuring 2.7 on the Richter Scale struck the county just over nine miles from Stroud last week.
The British Geological Survey reported that the tremor occurred at Alkington, near Berkeley, around 11.40pm on Friday, July 30.
Seismologists say we experience around five earthquakes of this size in the UK every year.
Britain’s largest recorded tremor measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale hit Bishop’s Castle in Shropshire in 1990.
