NINE of the 51 district councillors voted for a ten percent cut in members’ allowances at the Stroud District Council’s full council meeting on Thursday, July 22.
The amendment was tabled by Cllr John Fowles (Lab, Cam West) following a review of members’ allowances by the Independent Remuneration Panel.
Cllr Fowles was joined by Labour group leader Karon Cross and Lib Dem group leader Dennis Andrewartha in saying that the council needed to show leadership at a time that council employees would be losing their jobs.
It is expected that SDC will downsize by ten percent.
