TO CELEBRATE their joint birthdays The Hexagon Theatre Company and Chalford Band are collaborating to bring the best of both talents to the Subscription Rooms in their version of the 1996 film Brassed Off.
The Chalford Band now in its astonishing 125th year will be performing the exciting brass accompaniment whilst The Hexagon Theatre Company, celebrating 25 years, will bring plenty of northern humour to the stage to recreate this funny yet heart-warming play.
The setting is 1990s Yorkshire and the spirit of a Grimley mining community is threatened by the closure of their pit.
The main characters, a group of miners come brass musicians, are faced with the difficult decision of voting to keep the pit open or taking the money on offer.
Their conscience is certainly put to the test.
The arrival of an attractive young woman returns to her home town eager to join the band, but what exactly is she doing working for the coal board?
Expect some familiar faces to this bitter-sweet performance directed by Mary Moore and Katy Albiston.
Chalford Band formed in 1885 and recently won the national title of Pontin's first section champions putting them in the top 200 world rankings.
Performances will take place on Friday and Saturday at 7.30pm and a matinee on Sunday at 3.00pm.
Tickets available from Tourist Information. £10, £8 concessions.
