Police are appealing for witnesses to a hate crime incident in Park Parade in Stonehouse.
The incident happened between 9pm and 9.15pm on Monday July 12 as a local man was walking outside the Londis Shop. A group of around 10 young people shouted verbal abuse at him, making reference to his sexuality, and threw a soft drinks can at him.
PC Kirsty Iliffe said; “We want to reassure the local community that we will not tolerate hate crimes and behaviour of this nature. We work closely with our partner agencies as part of the Gloucestershire Hate Crime Action and Incident Group and we are eager encourage victims to report any incidents either to us or on the Gloucestershire Hate Crime number.”
Hate Crimes can be reported to the Police on either 999 in an emergency or on the non-emergency number of 0845 090 1234. You can also call the 0845 number, or speak to your local Safer Community Team if you would like advice or support if you have witnessed or experienced such crime. Alternatively you can call the Gloucestershire Hate Crime number 0800 077 8460.
