Two people from Coleford were sentenced for child cruelty at Bristol Crown Court on Thursday.

Bonny Richards, 28, of Trafalgar Mews, Broadwell was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment, to be served concurrently, for each of the two counts of child cruelty she faced. John Davies, 32, of Albion Court, Scowles was sentenced to two terms of 18 months imprisonment, also to be served concurrently.

In June they pleaded pleaded guilty to the two counts of cruelty towards Holly Agius, who died at the age of 14 months last year.

The charges were connected to times when they gave methadone to Holly.

Police began their investigation after Holly died in hospital in January 2009.

Detective Sergeant Dave Shore-Nye, officer-in-charge of the case, said: “We welcome today’s sentencing and would like to thank all those who helped us with our enquiries, including all our partner agencies, during what was a very difficult investigation after Holly's tragic death.

“The courts accepted the pleas of Richards and Davies as reflective of their actions and both will now have to live with Holly's death for the rest of their lives."
