Merrywalks Canal Bridge is to close for four months on Tuesday, July 20 to allow the long awaited re-opening of the Wallbridge canal.
The project will begin with construction of a temporary road to provide a diversion, which will bypass the site and keep traffic moving.
This will make use of the old Wallbridge Bridge over the canal, which was cut off in 1980s when Dr Newton’s Way was built.
The new canal bridge will enable regeneration work, which will see the reopening of the waterway beneath because the old main road bridge is too low.
It will be re-opened to traffic in mid November in order to ensure no traffic delays over the Christmas period.
