HUNDREDS of visitors will descend on Stratford Park on Saturday for the annual Stroud Country Show.

Cows are the inspiration behind this year's event, which runs from 10.30am to 4.30pm, with the title being moo-ve along to the show.

To celebrate the anniversary of the acquisition of Stratford Park by Stroud Urban District Council in 1935, there will be several special events, including a display of knitted swimming costumes from 1930s patterns.

Besides the usual judging, there will be an exhibition by Stroud Embroiderers' Guild plus bands, bee-keepers, dry stone walling, vintage vehicles, children's rides and the judging of the SNJ handwriting competition.

There is also a companion dog show open to all dogs with 13 classes including waggiest tail plus stalls from the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, Cotswold Sheep Society, Cotswold Pheasant and Poultry Club and Gloucester Rabbit Club.

Two old posters designed by Mike Hawkes from the Whiteway Colony will be on display this year.

Back in 1949, Mike entered a competition to design the Stroud Show poster and came third.

The subsequent year he entered the competition again, where he bettered himself and came first. Photocopies of the posters from 1949 and 1950 will be on display in the horticultural tent.
