PROPOSALS to transform Tricorn House into a care home were deferred yesterday by members of Stroud District Council Development Control Committee.

The plans had been recommended for refusal after concerns were raised that with 170 new staff employed by the residential home, they would need considerably more than the 18 existing parking spaces.

This would inevitably lead to indiscriminate parking on nearby residential roads.

However, revised plans were submitted to operate a minibus service to and from the site, but more time was needed to formulate them.

The application proposed to change the building from an office block to a residential home incorporating an elderly, mental and infirm (EMI) wing.

The triangular building, well-known for its 1970s concrete pebble dash exterior, has fallen into a state of disrepair after being vacant for five years.

An application has already been approved for renewable energy company Ecotricity to keep the building as offices.
