MOLL Flanders - Daniel Defoe's classic tale of adventure and debauchery - is bringing a definite dose of sauce and sexiness to the Everyman in Cheltenham this week.
Presented by KAOS theatre, which formed in Cirencester before moving to London's West End in 2001, Moll Flanders is an eye-popping account of one woman's journey through poverty, prostitution, pick- pocketing and penitence, directed and adapted by the company's artistic director Xavier Leret.
The company has an international reputation for creating breath-taking, thought-provoking, moving and highly original theatre productions and their work combines physical theatre, storytelling, text, live and recorded music and video.
In the last 10 years KAOS has toured their work extensively in the UK as well as performing overseas.
Moll Flanders, published in 1722, was one of the earliest English novels. It is not only an extremely entertaining and action-packed story, but also gives a valuable and lively picture of 17th Century society.
Although Moll is an exceptional character because of her ingenuity and extraordinary life, the problems that Moll faces are firmly rooted in her society.
This brand new, daring adaptation is sure to raise a few eyebrows, just as the original did in 1722, and is not suitable for anyone under 16 years of age.
The production does contain strong language, nudity and scenes of a sexual nature.
The KAOS Moll Flanders comes to Cheltenham from Monday, March 6 to Wednesday, March 8. Tickets, which cost between £8.50 and £16.50, are available from the box office.
