OLD Wycliffian Peter Daniels proved age is no barrier by breaking his own world record 100,000m row at the Wycliffe College Sculling Centre last month.
Daniels,66, smashed his previous best of seven hours and 54 minutes, beating his previous record by 15 minutes in a time of seven hours, 38 minutes and 40 seconds.
Daniels quickly settled down to a steady 500m every two minutes and six seconds. Stopping briefly every 8,000m to snatch a drink.
Bathed in sweat he had slowed to 2.28/500 by 60,000m. However, encouragement, and a count down by the rowing crowd around him, saw him through.
Delighted
Peter was delighted to break his record.
"I'm delighted," he said. "When 95,000m was clocked up the marquee was opened and hundreds of well wishers, rowers and friends counted me down and applauded me to the climactic conclusion finishing at the same rate at which I had started."
The times were certified and witnessed by James Miller (OW) and Gus Mac Kinnon-Little of Concept2 U.K.
