VILLAGERS in Rooksmoor and a nearby landowner are building bridges in an attempt to solve the row over a blocked path across a stream.
Last month dozens of residents protested after businessman Michael Conroy, owner of Rooksmoor Mill, blocked off access to a path which cuts across his land.
But now Mr Conroy has offered an alternative route - which also crosses his land - and the Rooksmoor Residents' Association is considering the proposal.
"We are starting to talk and we are pleased the developers and owner have come up with a plan to provide access to the cycle track," said Nick Beardsley, the group's spokesman.
"We welcome this and the improving of relations which will hopefully allow the community and the developer to open up a dialogue about future plans in the community."
Villagers say they have used the path for decades to gain access to the cycle path - a safer route than using the busy A46 which is adjacent.
But Mr Conroy said he fenced off the route - which is not a designated footpath - as it crossed a weir and he had a duty of care.
Mr Conroy said: "I am waiting to hear if they want to accept the route I have offered.
"If they do it still won't be a public right of way but will be a permissive path in which we as landlords say it is ok for people to use."
