FA Trophy third round
Stafford Rangers 2 Forest Green Rovers 1
FUMING Forest Green boss Gary Owers summoned his players into training on Sunday after Conference North leaders dumped his side out of the FA Trophy.
Owers kept his side in the dressing-room for 45 minutes after their 2-1 FA Trophy defeat that saw former Forest Green legend Neil Grayson hit the winner on 56 minutes after Ryan Clarke could only push the ball to Grayson. Earlier, Craig Lovatt's volley (12) gave Stafford the lead.
Guy Madjo netted parity on the cusp of the interval, but Grayson's goal made sure it was Stafford who moved into the quarter-finals.
Owers said: "We had them in on Sunday, and told them some more home truths - they'll be in every day this week and we'll keep telling them until the penny drops."
Owers was particularly disappointed for the supporters who witnessed Rovers third defeat in as many games.
He added:"I apologise to people who came, but they're not as upset as I am." With his mind focused on this Saturday's home Conference clash with Scarborough, Owers is set to make changes.
He added: "Whoever gets picked next week owes me and the supporters a performance."
Meanwhile, midfielder Michael Brough will come into contention after being cup-tied for the Stafford match. Scott Rogers may be given an opportunity, but injured captain Jon Richardson looks unlikely to be fit.
