IMOGEN Harvey-Lewis, a well-known local artist noted for her work in stained glass, which appears in many private and community collections, is exhibiting her latest work, Illustration, in an exhibition at Star Anise Arts caf now.

Illustration is a new style for her, which evolved after the death of her husband as a means of exploring her emotional world.

As is natural with evolution, the illustration has taken on a life of its own.

The drawings have become beautiful, humorous and touching, capturing the subtleties of interaction between individuals and the world at large.

"I've always been into illustration - I admire Quentin Blake very much, for the quirkiness, humour and humaneness of his images," said Imogen.

"I love to draw. I draw every day - it's therapy as well as a passion. My work is distilled from the fuss and the extras of life - I try to get to the essence."

Her stained glass training has helped with her illustrative work.

"It helped my appreciation of line," she said. "A good line is important be it in lead or in pen."

Imogen has been deeply involved in Artspace.

She was also responsible for building Swortnail the Nailstock festival dragon and has been involved in numerous charitable and community projects.

The exhibition is on display amidst a busy caf atmosphere until March 4. Star Anise Caf is open Monday to Saturday between 8am and 6pm.

Entry is free, but the purchase of a coffee would be greatly appreciated. All illustrations will be for sale and commissions can be taken.
