SUBSTITUTE Bruno Teixeira stepped off the bench to snatch a last-gasp draw for Forest Green to stretch their unbeaten run to six games at Cambridge United to halt United's four-game winning run.
The talismanic Portuguese striker helped Rovers climb further from the lower echelons of the league.
Earlier, Rovers took a quick lead. Julian Alsop headed on Ben Harding's third minute corner for Jon Richardson to nod home.
However, United found parity on 18 minutes. A flowing move saw Andy Duncan nod home. Meanwhile, former Bristol Rovers keeper Scott Howie was alert to snuff out a Guy Madjo strike.
Ben Harding went close as Rovers threatened again. However, Newman's side took the lead on 68 minutes, moments after Damon Searle had been booked.
Rovers' much mentioned set play fragility was again punished through Fola Onibuje.
Rovers proceeded to put United under the cosh.
Paul Wanless wearing the skipper's armband against his former club blasted wide from a free-kick. Alsop then watched Howie produce two smart stops as Rovers hunted parity.
The deserved equaliser duly arrived. Keeper Ryan Clarke went up for the last throw of the dice.
Harding's corner eventually saw Teixeira nod in at the far post. Match stats
