GENEROUS Forest Green fans have given Gary Owers a financial boost ahead of Friday night's FA Trophy second round home clash with Conference South Dorchester Town (7.45pm).
A host of financial pledges, including a donation of £1,000 from a fan, and an equal amount from vice-chairman Colin Gardner have flowed into the club's GRASS (Give Regularly-Assist Squad Sponsorship ) scheme.
The cash is set to help Owers in his quest to secure the services of striking sensation Guy Madjo, who has hit five goals in as many games following his loan move from Bristol City.
Gardner's pledge will come to fruition if an extended deal for Madjo can be reached.
He has also urged supporters to donate £1 per week until the end of the season that would give the club an extra £500.
The Grass scheme was devised from the think-tank of fans Mike Trueman and Pete Jubb. Last season the scheme helped pay for the loan signing of Ryan Williams from Bristol Rovers.
Trueman said: "Guy is a fantastic player and we hope our money can help. There has not been such support for the scheme since we started it a year ago."
The financial fillip will negate Owers' frustration at being snubbed by Williams and former Kidderminster Harriers winger John McGrath, who have opted for bigger pay packets at Aldershot Town and Weymouth respectively. Owers said: "It's a fantastic gesture from the fans. Every penny counts-we really appreciate what they're doing.
"We were disappointed to miss out on Ryan and John but we have to move on from that. I will be speaking to Guy Madjo's agent this week and hope to sort something out soon."
GRASS will accept one off payments, although regular monthly payments can be made by direct debit/standing order. Forms can be obtained from The Lawn
