A TEENAGE boy has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing a 19-year-old youth in the neck in Stonehouse on New Year's Eve.
The victim was rushed to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital where he underwent surgery and is in a serious but stable condition.
He was attacked between Green Street and the Brewer's Arms pub in Gloucester Street at 9pm.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested later that night and charged with wounding.
He appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on Monday and remanded in custody to a young offenders' institution.
The brutal assault has shocked the community.
Town and district councillor Chris Brine (Lab, Stonehouse) said: "It's absolutely appalling this sort of thing is unheard of in Stonehouse.
"I am really shocked that this could happen here and that someone might be carrying around an offensive weapon."
Witnesses should contact Gloucestershire police on 0845 090 1234.
