Carpenter Joseph Lauzier, 24, from Brimscombe, has been teaching in a school in Uganda. From time to time he keeps SNJ readers updated on his progress. Here is his latest news before he heads back home.

Dear All,

The term ended at the start of December and the last week was hectic, completing the finishing touches to the furniture and fabrics in the resource centre, but with help from the students we got it all done.

All the windows are curtained and it looks really great.

On the Friday and Saturday Kelly and I set up all the PCs to check them. Sadly one of the smaller ones and two of the others don't work and we only have 16 functioning monitors.

For now 12 are set up in the centre, complete with dust covers we had made and are running well.

The extra four will go to Kibubura, the secondary school across the road. By the time I get back the hub should have arrived for me to set up a network for the printer.

I arrived in Kampala on Monday too late to do anything of value. Went to Entebbe on Tuesday to swim at the Imperial Resort Beach hotel pool, on the north -east coast of Lake Victoria.

Unfortunately, it started tipping it down so we just ate burgers and drank cold beer instead, shame.

Wednesday I ran headless-chicken style around the capital to sort out my return flight and the finals of the gorilla trekking.

All sorted, off to be eaten by the big monkeys at the start of January then back to the UK on January 10. I can't wait.

Thursday I went back to the hotel in Entebbe and swam and sat beside the pool for hours.

Felt for a moment like I was in Malibu or some equally exotic place. Kelly meanwhile went off with her Peace Corps friends to climb Mt Kilimanjairo, sounds like fun.

love Joe
